These moments don't last though, and we drift on through to the usual state of veiled understanding. Also, I think jellyfish are quite beautiful. Quilting is much more fun when you love the subject.

For some reason, it didn't work out and they ended up in a vase that was very fun to make (similar to my grandmother's Japanese vase). What are those floating rectangles?

Balmy Summer Evening with Possible Fairies

This peaceful scene seemed to need a spark, so Mary hid five little fairies among the leaves and flowers. At least, She thinks they are there.

Misty Morning

It was designed in a two-day workshop with Joan Colvin, an artist whose essence and work Mary will always admire so greatly. Imagine that wet, foggy morning in the vineyard and surrounding hills before the sun breaks through and warms the vines.

Jewel in the Vineyard at Dawn

During the time she was working on the squares, Mary and her brother were helping with early morning grape harvest. He photographed a gorgeous spider web shimmering with dew drops. Mary knew she had to add this beauty to the next quilt, so she used crystal beads and silver mylar thread in an attempt to imitate nature.

Keeping Up Appearances

Call The Gallery for size and price. ..........Mary spend quite a bit of time creating several tiny pieced peacocks that really had no planned destination or home. After a long period of limbo they ended up in the tail of a larger peacock. This quilt was really fun for Mary because for the first time she let herself us fabrics that she considered to be outrageous. It was great and Mary has been doing that after as a fashion ever since. She also tried embroidery and thread work with her machine using rayon thread. This is an earlier, hand-quilted piece.

She drew them larger, trying to decipher as much detail as she could. She completed each figure before assembling all of them on this stylized chrysanthemum, which provides a stage for their performance. Some of the original figures didn't make the cut, but those that did agreed not to wear shoes so as not to damage the flower

Call The Gallery for size and price...........Here is a fabric rendition of a black and white family photo of Mary's father, his brother and two sisters. Mary's dad is in the middle and the little sister on the kelp, is her Aunt Janet, who lives in Carmel. Pebble Beach was in the background originally, but it was too distracting and I left it out to concentrate on the beauty and energy of the children.

Peonies

It is a difficult pattern to piece because a square has to be set into the surrounding pieces. Mary liked the challenge of combining the bold background with the delicate, stylized peonies.
